Scissors are useful in many ways in house and in commercial activities, right from crafts to kitchen in house. However if proper care is not taken, the same scissors may develop rust and they will be of no use. People usually throw away the rusted scissors but we have have an very inexpensive way of cleaning them in house. Avoid water in cleaning them, this will make them more rusty.

Things you Need

  • Rusted Scissors
  • White Vinegar
  • Baking Soda
  • Pinch of Salt
  • Lemon Slice
  • Small Bowl
  • Fine Steel wool pad

White vinegar is an very effective to get rid of rust from scissors/knives. You can use white vinegar to remove rust permanently. So lets clean our rusted scissors today. Pour vinegar into a plastic or glass bowl and mix baking soda in to it. Add pinch of salt and squeeze one slice lemon in to it. dip the scissors in to the solution and let it be for 10 minutes.

Now dip steel wool and rub on scissor. Take care of not rubbing on sharp edges of scissor, this will make dull.

Wipe the scissors with a clean cotton cloth to remove all the rust and dust. Apply some coconut oil on it. Open and close the scissors a few times to distribute the oil, then wipe off the excess with the cotton cloth. Never leave scissors outside overnight.This will prevent future rust, always store in closed drawer or cupboard

Note: Do not use vinegar if scissors are of not stainless steel. Vinegar can cause future rusting.
