Tawa Bhindi (Pan Fried Okra) is the side dish which is made in almost every house. It is a spicy and crispy recipe made from Okra. Tawa bhindi is best to taste and eaten with soft chappatis/Fulka. One can also have this with yogurt/raita. The crispy and flavorful vegetable is ready in no time.


Tawa Bhindi (Pan Fried Okra) recipe is very simple, you won’t imagine that it tastes best with fewer spices, in fact, the natural taste of Tawa Bhindi (Pan Fried Okra) is best. So let’s try out this simple dish.

  • 250 g – Bhindi (Okra)
  • 1 tsp – turmeric powder (Haldi)
  • 1 Small finely chopped onion/or even the paste will do
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree (Just for taste)
  • 1 tsp – Red Chilli powder
  • 1 tsp – Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp – Jeera
  • 1 tsp – Coriander powder
  • 1 tsp – Tava fry masala
  • 1 tsp – Amchur powder
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Salt to taste


  1. For bhindi (Okra) –  Cut bhindi into small roundels
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a tawa,
  3. Add jeera and then add finely chopped onions or onion paste on tawa.
  4. Fry onions till they turn brown.
  5. Add the 2tbsp tomato puree and mix it well with the onions.

Note: Mixing of Onions paste and tomato puree is just for the taste, take care the texture of bhindi (Okra) should not change. It should remain natural green.

  1. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, salt and tawa fry masala. Fry it well.
  2. Add roundels of bhindi and cover it for some time.
  3. Open the cover and add garam masala and amchur powder.
  4. Serve it hot with paratha or chapati.
