Mushroom Matar (Green peas) is a semi-dry ultimate side dish in Indian marriages, one cannot have his menu complete without Mushroom Matar (Green peas), in marriages of north India this dish is made of Punjabi garam masala and this dish is very famous in north Indian marriages and hence the name Shaadiwali mushroom Matar.


One can replace mushroom with paneer (cottage cheese) but add paneer in the last once your Matar (Green peas) are cooked. One can have this side dish Shaadiwale Mushroom Matar with Tandoori roti or with rice, it goes well with both.

  • 7-8 pieces Mushroom
  • 2/3 medium sized Tomatoes
  • 1/2 Cup Green Peas ( Matar)
  • 2/3 Green Chilly
  • 1 piece medium size Ginger
  • 1/2 cup Fresh Creme
  • Finely Chopped Green Coriander
  • Salt as per taste
  • Pinch of Asafoetida
  • 5/6 Cloves
  • 1 tbsp Dry fenugreek leaves
  • 2 Brown cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 inch piece Cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  •  1/4 tsp Red chilly powder
  • 5-6 Black pepper
  • 2-3 tbsp Oil

Clean all the mushroom in a running water and cut into 4-5 pieces.

Grind tomatoes, green chilies and ginger in the grinder and make a paste of it. Now coarsely grind the whole species and keep aside.

Now take a pan and heat on medium flame, when its hot put some oil in it. when oil is hot, add asafoetida and cumin seeds into it. After 1 minute add turmeric powder, coriander powder, grounded masala paste, coarsely grounded spices and dry fenugreek leaves. Saute the masala until the oil leaves the mixture.

Now add green peas in the sauteed masala, mix well, cover and cook for 2-3 minutes or until peas turn soft. Add some fresh creme and mix well till your curry starts simmering. After that add your mushrooms and mix well till hey are coated well. Then add salt and garam masala, Cover and cook for 4-5 more minutes on low flame.

Open the lid and mix some coriander into it. Serve this dish hot with Fulka, tandoori Roti or rice and relish the taste of Shaadiwale Mushroom Matar.
