Chicken Achari  or Achari chicken as the name suggest, one would believe that chicken is made with pickles. Basically, this is a achari chicken dish which is made with all the spices one would normally use in an Indian pickle.  It is really aromatic and delicious, the flavour improves over time as in the case of any other pickle. So this is the perfect Achari chicken dish that will taste even better a day or two after it was prepared. It taste well with plain rice or Tandoori Roti.

Things you need

4 Green Chillies.

2 Green chillies big one as used in Pickle.

1 tbsp Coriander (dhania)  & Cumin (Jeera) powder

2 1/2 tbsp Punjabi spicy pickle masala (One can get easily from the market)

1 tsp turmeric powder

1 tbsp Garam masala

2 to 3 tsp red kashmiri powder

1 tbsp chat masala


1/2 kg boneless chicken

1 cup hung curd

2 tbsp lemon juice

1 cup tomato puree

2 to 3 tbsp ginger garlic paste


For Marination

In a mixing bowl mix all ingredients with boneless chicken and  mix well till all the ingredients are marinated.


Mix well till all the chicken are coated well.


Now add Yogort, Ginger garlic paste, tomato puree and lime juice. Mix well and leave this for marination for 2 hours and let all the spice get mixedwith the chicken juice. leave it in the fridge.


In a heavy bottom sauce pan heat the oil. Put big Green chilly which is stuffed with the pickle and lemon juice, used mainly for pickles in it. Saute for 3 minutes on low flame.

Mix the marinated chicken in it. Cook for a couple of minutes till the oil leaves the sides of the pan. Cook the chicken pieces on a medium heat to make sure the pieces are sealed and coated in the gravy for 5-7 mins. Add water and bring the curry to a boil, then simmer covered on a low heat cooking for 20 mins until the chicken is cooked through and succulent, stirring a couple of times.


Serve this easy chicken pickling dish and relish it.
