Chana Jor Garam is an Indian garbanzo street snack, It’s a delicious, mouthwatering, spicy and tangy chaat made of a Black gram or Bengal gram. This snack is always chapata (Spicy and tangy). Chana Jor Garam recipe is a big hit and famous among Indians.

Though nowadays we don’t usually get this easily, very few snack corners serve this but if one wants to enjoy the good old taste of this traditional Chana Jor Garam, then the best way is to make at home.


Chana Jor Garam is served on streets, usually wrapped in a paper.

  • 1 cup Bengal gram 
  • 1/4 cup Coriander leaves (Dhania)
  • 3 finely chopped Green Chillies
  • 1 finely chopped Onion
  • 1 finely chopped Tomato
  • 1 medium size Lemon
  • 1/4 tsp Black Salt (Kala Namak)
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin powder, roasted
  • 1/2 tsp Dry Mango Powder (Amchur)
  • Chaat Masala Powder


To begin with the preparation of Chana Jor Garam, first, make the flattened Bengal gram, for this take a bowl, add 3cupsp of water and 1 cup of Bengal gram in it. leave it aside for 7 – 8 hrs or overnight.

Now, Drain excess water and boil for some time. Drain all the water and press them with the help of rolling pin and dry them in sun or in the oven.

Now heat oil in a pan add these flatten Bengal gram and cook them on a medium flame, keep stirring till it becomes crispy, transfer to a plate.

Now take the Bengal gram or your chana jor garam in a mixing bowl and add coriander powder, red chili powder, roasted cumin powder, black salt and dried mango powder, salt and mix them well.

Your Chana Jor Garam Chaat is ready to be served as an evening snack or when you are craving something tasty, spicy, tangy and quick.
